What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is when users access their software applications using a Web browser anytime and anywhere they have an Internet connection. In a cloud-computing model, organizations subscribe to software applications, or purchase applications outright and have them hosted somewhere other than on their own servers; software operations and maintenance are provided by a vendor, rather than their IT department. The subscription model eliminates substantial upfront and ongoing costs.
This subscription model is called Software as a Service (SaaS)—when a vendor owns the server and the software and the customer uses the software like a service. This can be either Windows-based, when software is hosted on a remote server, or a web application. The vendor typically handles upgrades automatically on an ongoing basis with no extra fees for the subscriber.
Synergy deploys both cloud-based and on-premise ERP financial management and project accounting software. Synergy's cloud-computing solutions are Intacct, a web application, and hosted Microsoft Dynamics SL, a Windows-based application. Synergy also implements and supports Microsoft Dynamics SL as an on-premise solution.
